Favignana Island Sicily
Hi Nomad Birds
As an island freak Nomad Bird, again, once more, I decide to write about one of the islands where I left one piece of my heart! In 2011, my one month great adventure of Sicily started in Favignana. With Sara of course.
You can go to the island from Trapani, one of the biggest cities in Sicily (which has also an airport). You take the ferry from Trapani and arrive Favignana, which lies in deep blue Mediterranean. Actually it is a Italian comune island which includes three island; Favignana, Marettimo, and Levanzo. The island is situated approximately 7 kilometres west coast of Sicily, between Trapani and Marsala (another beauty of Sicily).
The island basically is famous for its tuna, and fishermen. On all old pictures of Favignana, you see Sicilians on a boat on tuna hunt.
Here is a view of the island
There are so many awesome beaches such as Cala Rossa, Cala Azzurra, and many more. If you ever get the chance to visit the island, you should ask for Aqua Calda as well. This water is always hot because of the geologic factors I guess:) I just enjoyed it and my friends always kept the fact that why the water is always hot as a secret:)
